The Northern Neck & Chesapeake Bay: A Regional Guide to Rural Living was first published in 1997 by the Commonwealth of Virginia with the title Tidewater Low Country Almanac, with the goal of paying tribute to this outdoor landscape and natural treasures of the Northern Neck.
“Our hope,” the Guide’s Foreword states, “is that [this guide] will remind you of the need to appreciate anew the natural beauty of this wondrous place, and to accept your individual and collective responsibility to keep the Northern Neck a splendid and verdant, wet and wild, and delightfully intimate place to visit and live in.
