Westmoreland County Household Hazardous Waste Collection

It has never been a better time for spring cleaning in Westmoreland County! In response to the increasing interest in the proper disposal of household chemicals, the county has added a second Household Hazardous Waste Collection event to the 2019 calendar. The Spring 2019 Household Hazardous Waste Collection (HHW) will take place on Saturday, June 1, 2019.

Westmoreland County residents and property owners are invited to bring old household chemicals such as oil-based paint, cleaners, solvents, old or used petroleum products, spent fluorescent and CFL bulbs, and more to the Spring 2019  This event will take place at the A.T. Johnson Human Services Building’s parking lot at 18849 Kings Highway in Montross on Saturday, June 1, 2019, from 9 AM until 2 PM.  The event is open to all residents and property owners in Westmoreland County.  Residents can bring up to 100 lbs. of HHW at no charge.  Participants will be charged $1.05/lb. for any waste that exceeds the 100 lb. limit. A representative from the county Treasurer’s Office will be present to issue bills and accept payments on-site.

This collaborative effort between Westmoreland County, Virginia Cooperative Extension, and the Northern Neck Soil and Water Conservation District gives citizens an opportunity to safely dispose of household chemicals and other substances that pose a danger to the environment if not disposed of properly.

Residents are asked to NOT bring tires, car batteries, explosives, ammunition, radioactives, medical waste, medications, or electronics to the collection.
