Would you like to create a beautiful garden that not only enhances your outdoor space but also supports biodiversity and contributes to the health of the environment? Learn how to do just that at the upcoming Gardening in the Northern Neck Seminar (GNN). The Northern Neck Master Gardeners are pleased to announce that Peggy Singlemann will present a talk on “Connecting the Garden to the Environment” at the annual event on March 29.

Singlemann is nationally known as one of the country’s foremost gardening experts. She is the longtime host and co-producer of Virginia’s only gardening TV show, Virginia Home Grown, seen on Virginia Public Media/PBS. In 2022, the Virginia General Assembly presented Singlemann with a commendation for her outstanding guidance, restoration, and preservation of the historic Maymont estate’s gardens, grounds, and arboretum over 38 years of service. She holds professional certifications as an arborist, horticulturist, and sustainable landscape designer.
Singlemann’s talk will share how a carefully tended garden can be visually appealing, contain various plant species, and support a thriving and diverse wildlife community, such as butterflies and bees. Singlemann’s infectious enthusiasm in sharing her knowledge of best ecological practices will make everyone excited about getting out and applying what they’ve learned.
In addition to hearing from a renowned public figure in gardening, the seminar provides an opportunity to connect with the local gardening community. Attendees can also explore the Market Place, where the Northern Neck Master Gardeners will have a selection of plants, shrubs, garden art, and tools available for purchase. GNN co-chair Deborah Marl states, “We have thoroughly enjoyed the selection process for the Market Place and are excited to share the results of our work with the seminar attendees.” This year’s seminar is being held at the White Stone Church of the Nazarene, 57 Whisk Dr. White Stone, March 29, 2025, 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. Register at www.nnmg.org. Tickets are $50 with lunch offered for an additional fee. Proceeds from GNN fund the annual Northern Neck Master Gardeners Association scholarships.
