Special Events Coordinator

 

Primary Responsibilities:   Facilitate rentals of Murphy Hall Conference center by developing wedding portfolio’s to assist users with the planning stages. Coordinates with available staff the cleaning and maintenance of facility. Provides contacts for vending and assists with the facilitating agency run trainings and meetings. Assists with the logistics and operation of special events such as the annual Music on the Cliff Concert Series, Gobble Wobble 5k, Holiday Festival, and other events as scheduled.

Other Duties: Provide visitor assistance in the Visitor Center, Contact Station, or Interpretation.  Operate cash register.  Must be able to work evening, weekends, and holidays.  Assist Business Manager, Office Manager and/or Chief Ranger with projects, Special Events planning and marketing.

Education:  Prefer 2 years of college education with major study in parks, and recreation, education, communication, marketing, or public administration.  Experience in park interpretation, outdoor recreation, volunteer management, or special events coordination may be partially substituted for the education requirement.

Knowledge and Skills:  Ability to effectively communicate with people of all ages, verbally and in writing; ability to provide good customer service; ability to organize and implement events and programs; competent in Microsoft Office applications, a valid Virginia driver’s licenses and clean driving record; be willing or become certified in Basic First Aid, and CPR.

Personal Characteristics:  Demonstrate interest in people and parks, ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt and appropriate course of action, neat personal appearance, pleasing personality, honest and with integrity.

Compensation and Employment Period:  $12.00-$15.00 per hour starting wage range, depending on experience, works a maximum of 1500 hour per fiscal year from May 1 to April 30, 28-32 hours per week, worker’s compensation is the only benefit provided.
