Northumberland County Household Hazardous Waste and E Waste Collection

The 2017 Spring Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste Collection for Northumberland County will take place Saturday, May 6, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Northumberland County Middle School parking lot, located off of Academic Lane in Heathsville, Virginia.

This collaborative effort between Northumberland County, Virginia Cooperative Extension, and the Northern Neck Soil and Water Conservation District gives Northumberland County residents an opportunity to safely dispose of household chemicals and other substances that pose a danger to the environment if not disposed of properly. Residents may also bring electronic items such as old televisions, computer monitors, rechargeable batteries, telephones, printers and fax machines.

There are some items that residents should not bring, such as ammunition, radioactive materials, tires, car batteries, medical waste, prescription drugs and latex paint (latex paint can be disposed of in the trash as long as it has dried up, which can be done by simply removing the lids and letting it sit before throwing it away).  As for prescription and expired medications, residents are urged to dispose of them during local drug take back events that are held semi-annually.  Residents should check with their local law enforcement officials for details.

Anyone with questions about the Household Hazardous Waste and E-Waste collection event should call the Northumberland County Extension Office at (804) 580-5694 or the Northern Neck Soil and Water Conservation District at (804) 313-9102, extension 105.
